One day I will learn to take a before picture. She used to be a pine armoire, you can kind of see her here. She was the first piece of furniture my husband and I bought after we were married. Though she is lovely, she is an enormous piece of furniture that consumes whatever room she is in…and she has been in many rooms. Many muscles have been pulled moving this gal from house to house and room to room. The husband had had it with her and said we should sell her, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I knew she had a makeover in her.
So we painted her ivory, like I paint all things. Then her doors started begging for some love, so I painted some harlequin diamonds on them. I didn’t measure and tape and make the diamonds perfect (like I have done before). I wanted it a little whimsical so I free handed the lines, I am quite pleased with the results.
Then I distressed her a little with some metallic glaze and sanding. Don’t feel bad for her, she deserved the distressing, she has been stressing me out for years. It actually ended up dressing her up a bit, rather than making her more casual.
