As promised, I will attempt to build my case as to why I think I should paint the trim (at least maybe the french doors) in our family room black. Who am I building my case for you ask? Partially myself, I’m not sure if I have the guts to do it; but mainly my husband who says I’m crazy. Here are plenty of examples of proof that it works. What do you think?

And if it’s good enough for a Nancy Meyers’ movie set, then it’s good enough for me. I rest me case.

Go for it! If you don’t like it, you can always change it.
one of my all time favorite movie houses is from “it’s complicated”! love black trim and you would be one that could pull it off!
I’m a big, BIG fan of using the color black in interior/exterior decor choices. It really does introduce an undeniable touch of class. Windows will catch and hold my attention when they are trimmed in black, and a black front door is my preferred choice- a standout feature for any home. I believe you will be very pleased with the final result.
I couldn’t agree more
Hi Amy,,,Yes to the chandelier/s ,,the more the better. Lanterns are great too,,,and yes to the black door. My front door is black. It’s past colors were a seastone blue from the 80′s and then a hunter green from the 90′s,and now quite grown up and sophisticated and sexy in black. I have always wanted to change out our trim and french doors to white,,,which is also a beautiful move, but I’m enjoying the photos of the black french doors,,,that is a beautiful move also. I would say the common ground in all the above photos, is the white/off white and even gray light colored neutrals on the walls that make the black pop and look so divine. Go for it,, like others said it’s only paint, and we all know that you could chalk paint it to be more divine if needed.
When I see black trim on window (especially the panes) I immediately think of France. Given our mutual love for Europe, I totally see your point of view.
I think it fits your style beautifully.
Danny!!!Hey nice to saw a new post again!! how are you?drink more water and also take a break when tired…your’s fan…By antonylca..(antony_lca@hotmail.com)
I think you want to do the doors black, but stick to white trim. ‘Course, I’m just judging by these photos…
Do it, Do it, Do it!!! (insert playground egging on voice) I love it and have always loved it. So classic and sophisticated!!!
I’m on your side…I love black accents!
Hello Amy! My Pinterest boards are full of these very pictures! I am definitely paining my french doors and window in my kitchen black and I cannot wait to get it done. Do it – it will look smashing! Good luck!
Totally go for it, as all the photos are stunning!
I really like it! I think you should go for it… After all, it’s only paint, so if you don’t like it, you can always change it. I love the pictures you posted as examples of how it does work…
One thing I noticed is that all those spaces are fairly large and have other details in them that are also black. So to make it look cohesive, you probably need something like a stool, or a chair, or some other piece of furniture that also has some black details to really tie the black trim in with the room. Otherwise, I think it might look a little heavy.
But I really think you should go for it. It’s so pretty, elegant and with a traditional flair!
