We are dog people around here. I grew up with dogs, and within two weeks of being a married woman, my new groom bought me my very own Yorkie which we adored for 11 sweet years. We named him Matty (short for matrimony). I have told you about him before. We loved our little guy. And then we temporarily lost our minds, and bought this beautiful beast.
I love him too, but in a “I’m gonna bury you in the next hole you dig in my backyard” kind of way. It’s a different kind of love. The love you have for a dog before you have children, is different from the love that you have for one once you have 3 kids running around. But I do love my Mr. Darcy, and he is pretty smitten with me too.
So I kinda thought I would break from the complicated and detailed portraits that I have been painting (the ones that have been making me want to bang my head against a wall); and paint something more whimsical. Have you seen this picture floating around Pinterest? I almost died when I saw it. I could not find the source to credit the very deserving photographer, but isn’t it a great picture!
So I thought it might be cute painted for a little man’s room. I can’t tell you how much fun this painting was for me to paint. I was done in less than two hours, no frustration, no banging my head against the wall, it was just plain fun for me. I think I’ll paint more like him, but maybe switch up the breed of dog and attire. I’m all excited because I think this might be my excuse to buy Mr. Darcy a few accessories to dress him up in and take his picture. And to my sisters that are rolling their eyes right now, you can both just accept it, your sister is that person that dresses her dog in clothes. Let’s just deal with it and move on.

Cute as a button/bowtie! Makes me want to get my paints out!
I could almost adopt him. The little brown fellow that is… because your Mr. Darcy might send me over the edge with the hole digging. The current house canine just yawned from her perch on the leather couch… she might not be game for another one around her either.
So busy lately, keep missing fun posts… like the pink birthday!! You outdid yourself you fabulous mother! I’m trying to convince the hubby to move himself & his clients south… so I can live with near someone I pretend to be my real life friend, ha!
The hubby finds it creepy..sigh.
And you should always edit your comments because I totally meant LIVE NEAR… NOT WITH. Help me now.
Its perfect! Love it! You are very talented!
Love this painting….and your four-legged! He’s precious…we have a chocolate lab so I can relate! One minute you love them and the next…well….:)
Love It and him! Glad he’s not mine but I do love the picture. Keep painting my girl, you have some talent, not sure where you got it, but it’s there. You should paint a picture of your sister’s dogs, they would love that and forgive you for the dog outfits. Ha! Love to all!!

Hi Amy. I can’t believe how much your dog Darcy looks like ours. And our golden retriever is called Darcy too! Ours is just over 18 months old. They look identical. We are in Melbourne, Australia. Have you discovered a solution for the digging?
