It’s finishing touch, detail time in the family room. My husband asked what kind of floors I wanted in the new space (assuming my answer would be to just run more of what we already have going on in the rest of the house.) But he didn’t know that I had seen hardwoods like these. Oh my. Some are called herringbone, some chevron, I’m not entirely clear on what the difference is. I told him, “I like the herringbone better, and that way is easier to install, right?”.

He said, “No. What’s easier to install is running them straight across, like a normal human”. He forgets. I’m not normal.

Regardless of my non-normalcy, apparently it’s like quadruple the cost, so I will have to fake normal behavior and run our hardwoods horizontally. But these floors are lovely to look at, aren’t they! Happy weekend to you all! Thanks for reading here at Playing Sublimely.

Yes they are so pretty! Have you seen hardwood in a square tipe pattern where it’s a small square in the center then gets bigger and bigger? So pretty! Have a great weekend
Amy,
Those floors are beautiful! And so is your addition – can’t wait to see the final reveal – love your style.

HI Amy, I have been MIA lately and apologize. We are going to build a NEW HOUSE!!! So talk about alot of decisions!!!! These floors are beautiful. WE will be getting hardwood too but laid horizontally too:):) XO, Pinky
We just ripped up our old carpets and linoleum, and just ordered the hardwoods to be delivered. And I’ve been obsessed over herringbone for the floors. We are installing ourselves, so cost isn’t an issue. The planks we ordered are 6″ wide by about 30″ long, so they would be PERFECT for herringbone. I almost have my husband talked into the extra work it will create. I totally pretended like it would be a cinch and was all “Once we get to the walls and corners, you JUST miter your edge first and then measure how long it needs to be!” HA. But he still asks questions like “Which way do you want the floors to run?” and I just pretend link he means the herringbone pattern. ; )
I love herringbone, too! But I’ll have to fake normal with you and stick with straight up hardwoods! Bless your husband!
xo,
Linsey
Well, if you ever get the chance to visit Europe again…take a gander to St. Petersburg, Russia and visit the palaces. You will DIE over the floor designs there. Trust me, we took lots of pictures of the floors. Crazy, but true. Oh, and pictures of the ceilings, too. I have a feeling you would be in DESIGN and ARCHITECTURE heaven.
