Summer

We do summer well around here.  It’s my favorite time of the year.  We stay up too late, we sleep in too long, we watch too much tv, we play Jimmy Buffett music too loud, and we hang at the pool the perfect amount: daily.  I avoid practically everything which requires a schedule, with the small exception of swim team; and that is only allowed because we are already at the pool anyways, so why not swim with a team.  I love the summer, and so do my little people.

Which is why this is not working for me:Poor Thomas has a fractured foot.  They tried to cast it, but I cried and pleaded and begged instead for a boot which would be removable.  They rolled their eyes, but finally agreed.  We have way too much partying to do at the pool and beach for that sweet boy to be in a cast!  And speaking of people rolling their eyes at me, do you remember my story about Caesar, “The Paint Nazi”?  Until last week, I thought being indecisive was the only way to frustrate and offend Caesar.  It turns out there is an even greater offense by which he can be insulted.  I had the audacity to attempt staining our new arbors on my own.  Fours hours into the first coat of the first arbor, I picked up the phone and called Caesar to come and finish.  He came over and stared in total disgust at my work.  I kept anticipating a “no paint for you” reaction; but instead he murmured something in Spanish, and he might have even spit on the ground as he walked by…I’m not totally sure.  I was too busy apologizing and begging for forgiveness.  And of course, Caesar finished the job for me and it was perfect.  Now what should I grow on them?  Any suggestions?

Lastly, a house update.  We are running behind schedule…again.  This is becoming the never ending project.  We made a last minute decision to tear out and remodel the two bathrooms upstairs.  We have had several leaks since moving into this house, so we reluctantly decided to tear out all the 40 year old plumbing and redo the bathrooms since there was already construction chaos upstairs anyways.  The only problem is this:

Though it’s annoying, it is not nearly as annoying as having to deal with an inevitable leak down the road.  So everything was ripped out, and the new plumbing went in.

People tell me this looks complicated, to me it just looks like plumbing.

Drywall goes up next week, woohoo!  Thanks for following along here, it is always fun for me to share and laugh through this process with you here.  Hope you too are spending long days at the pool!
