Father Daughter Sweetheart Dance

big balloonYou just feel glad to have been a part of it when you see the first three year old walk through the doors, holding her daddy’s hand, and wearing a wrist corsage.  Or while watching countless dads with pink sweaters hooked to their belts while dancing, because their little girls were getting hot.  Or all those teenage girls being escorted into the dance in gowns, on the arm of their proud fathers.  It was priceless.  My girls asked if they could wear crowns, and I said “of course you can!”  We are all in when it comes to their night with their dad, and they love it.  Ella and CarolineWe were asked to add a few updates to the decor for the evening.  In keeping with our theme verse from Ephesians, and focusing on the idea of being rooted in love, we built trees for the table tops.  We attached lit branches to the stands and covered them in butterflies to make the little girls happy.

full treeThe ice sculpture table in the foyer was wrapped with a pink tulle skirt that we made by tying strips of tulle to a long ribbon, and then attaching around the edge of the table.  It was lovely and feminine and I now want a tulle skirt.tulle skirt
making skirtWe updated the look of the photo booths by draping the backdrops in ribbon.  Though the photo booths are mainly for girls and their dads,daughters and dads photosome of the girls can’t help themselves.  Darling!charlies angels

Rooted in Love

52776626853250631_Te4RyYgk_cI have pink on my mind.  A few friends and I are creating decorations for our church’s Father-Daughter Dance.  My girls and husband have gone for years. When I told him we were doing the decorations this year, he asked “Are there decorations at the dance?”  Maybe one of the other 800 people that will be there will notice this year.  Maybe.

The first thing we did was choose a verse.  We needed scripture to direct us in a direction.  Paul’s words in Ephesians are so fitting for a father to pray over his daughter:

 For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.  I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Rooted in love.  It’s perfect, isn’t it.  From that verse, here are a few images that have given us inspiration:

A Christmas Oyster Roast

The season of parties is here.  It’s a busy time, but starting today, I’m fighting hard for a slower pace.  We hosted an oyster roast this weekend, with a perfect 70 degree day as our backdrop.  Here are a few pictures…

Despite the great seafood, the smores were possibly a bigger hit.

Let us pretend

I’m so buried in all things practical today, this video was a much needed dose of impractical for my creative soul.   I played it for my husband (the practical engineer), and he was clutching his heart and complaining of chest pains halfway through it.  While my creative wheels were turning in complete and absolute whimsical delight, he was calculating the “obscene and grotesque waste” of it all.  And he’s right of course.  I know he’s right, but I will ask you, the same thing I asked him.  Put aside every bit of practical and sensible training you have ever received.  Just for a moment, allow yourself to pretend that this is not an “obscene and grotesque waste of money”, and just appreciate the creativity of the design.  Tell the engineer side of your brain to sit down already, kick up their feet for just a minute, and enjoy how cool this is.   The artistic side of your brain will thank you.

Isn’t that amazing.  But please whatever you do, do not show this video to your husband while simultaneously mentioning how much fun it’s going to be to help plan your daughter’s wedding….or you will most assuredly be hooking the man up to oxygen before you get to the end.  Trust me.
